Trust The Struggle
Updated: Oct 28, 2020

I recently had two students tell me they are so frustrated with this COVID-19 stuff. One student told me how difficult it has been to not be at school learning and hanging out with their friends. Another student said, "Mr Brown, I'm really struggling with depression and anxiety." Trust me...I get it! These are challenging times.
I do want to encourage you with something. All of us, young and old have an amazing opportunity to grow from today's challenges. If you already feel like you’re at the end of your rope today with little slack left to hold on to, realize your mind is lying to you. It's lying. You can much more than hang in there; you can actually grow in crazy cool ways that can impact you in an amazing way now and a great way in your future!
Dealing with and overcoming the hard things in life is an amazing path to truth. It's easy to give in and quit and become depressed and even anxious when life is hard. But when we choose to do the right things, the right way, in the midst of hard times, we actually get stronger!
2 Reasons to Keep Doing The Hard Things to be Happy, Healthy & Successful
1. Every day you are growing stronger from your struggles.
In the midst of these challenging times, do you realize how strong you can get if you choose to not give up and challenge yourself to grow?
The World War II generation has been called by historians, the greatest generation. Why? When they were children, they endured the Great Depression. It was common everyday for families to wait in a long food line just to get a bowl of soup. About 10 years later they were no longer children. They were 18-20 years old fighting in World War II. Talk about hard times!
After the war, this generation is very responsible for building the America we know today. They built our highways, interstate road system, hydroelectric dams and much more. They chose GRIT to go and grow through their hard times. Guess what? I believe today's generation of students can become the Greatest Generation 2.0!
For students today, this is their opportunity to show GRIT and grow through the present challenges.
2. The hardest days shine a light on what’s truly important, and what isn’t.
These current difficult times are like walking in to a turbulent windstorm. As you fight to push through it, you not only gain strength, but the storm tries to tear away from you what can really matter most in your life.
COVID-19 has opened my eyes to the amazing value of friends, family, co-workers and so much more. Have you ever sat down for a short time and asked yourself, "What is most important in my life?
Your everyday chores and difficult tasks can be a prison or a pathway. It all depends on you. No matter how far down you think you’ve traveled, there is always a road leading to higher ground, a place of joy. There are always great possibilities in front of you, because you are always able to take a small step forward.

Today, let's choose to move forward!!
