Heroes Come and go, but Legends are Forever

Updated: Apr 23, 2020

This is a time when all of us are experiencing an extraordinary level of stress. Life has changed. For how long? Who knows?

I usually post my articles on Thursdays. However, one of my awesome 7th grade students (Denton) sent me this quote: "Heroes come and go but legends are forever." Denton then requested my blog articles be on Mondays as opposed to Thursdays. Denton's words: "You should do the article thing on Monday! Start the week off with something positive."

Wow Denton! Great idea and let's do it! 😎💥

So, here we go! Let's lean in to positivity! Right now, we are witnessing amazing acts of heroism in this COVID-19 crisis. So how can we start our week off with something positive? I think I've got the answer: To help yourself, start by helping others.

There is a ton of scientific research out there, which has shown that having a sense of purpose, and giving support and help to others, has a significant impact on our well-being/attitude.

When it comes to actions and doing things to move forward, I'm a big fan of just start small and then do those small actions over and over. Soon, those actions will become a habit...a good habit.

Here are some things you might consider today :

  • Send a text message or email of gratitude to someone. Do it again tomorrow...

  • Make a poster thanking our essential workers and hang it up where it's very visible.

  • Put your protective mask on and deliver a card of gratitude to a neighbor's doorstep.

There are so many kind and wonderful things you can do which can place you in the status of "Legendary." One of my former students became an instant "Legend" in my eyes last week. Jacie sent me an email totally out of nowhere telling me how much she appreciated me as her former instructor. Boom! Instant LEGEND! Another former student was seen in the newspaper because she dressed up like the Easter bunny and waived at little children who were looking out their living room windows in pure joy and amazement! Those little kids will NEVER forget seeing the Easter Bunny during the COVID-19 quarantine.

So think about it. We are all in this together. What can you do today, this week, which will bring a smile, hope and love to another person? Years from now, the people who received your act of kindness will remember you as a "Legend."😊

Denton sent me this:

Your turn...I'd love to hear from you. What will you do to impact a life this week?
