In this season of being thankful, it's pretty easy to forget just how much we have to be thankful for. Even in times of uncertainty – even when life seems far from perfect – it’s always important to keep things in perspective. Why? Because we can so easily lose perspective.
I get it. Life has a lot of ups and downs. I really don't like the downs but often times, it's the downs that help me to really appreciate the ups.
Here are 9 pretty darn cool things to be grateful for:
You are alive.
You didn’t go to sleep hungry last night.
You didn’t go to sleep outside.
You had a choice of what clothes to wear this morning.
You know someone who loves you.
You have access to clean drinking water.
You have access to medical care.
You have access to the Internet.
You can read.
I remember about one to two weeks before my stepfather passed, he called me on my phone and asked if I'd go to my piano and play two songs, first song, Mr. Bojangles and the second song, Journey's Don't Stop Believing. As I played those songs, my stepdad was singing right along with me. My heart was so moved. A week or two later he passed. I was really sad to see him go. However, I'm so very grateful that I had that tremendous opportunity to spend our last moments together on a cell phone and a piano.
Yes, life has a lot of downs but if we stop, look and listen day in and day out I think we'd be blown away by how many simple and incredible blessings we have each and every day!
